The most important things to do soon after you move into a new home

There are a lot of things to consider after you move into a new house. Packing and unpacking might seem like the most important thing that would need your attention but there are a few other things that might be standing in the way of you moving in. Rajinder Dhutti, one of the top realtors in Fraser Valley has put together a list of things that you need to do immediately after you move into a new house. Follow these steps by Rajinder Dhutti to make your move seamless.

1. Figure out what will go where:

It will be a lot more helpful if you make a plan of action for setting everything up. This is especially true for heavy items like furniture and delicate items like precious showpieces or crockery. While you may have a basic idea of how you wish to set up your house, take a moment and visualize how everything will look. This will make settling down a lot easier.

2. Locate the water valve and fuse box:

These might seem like the most trivial things to care about, but you don’t want to end up looking for them everywhere when you need them the most. Locate these things as soon as you move out so in case the power cuts off or you need to turn off the water, you’ll know where to find them.

3. Change your locks:

It is always a good idea to change the locks to a new house after you move in. You may not be concerned about the previous owners of the house, but you never know who else has the keys. Change the locks on all the doors in the interior and exterior of your house including the windows. This is one of those scenarios where you’d rather be safe than sorry.

4. Get your address changed:

Notify everyone you know about your move if you haven’t already. This includes your friends, family, post office, your bank, loan provider or anyone who might be sending you bills or any other important documents.
